Welcome back to the NHL Hat Trick.
ICYMI - The NHL Season Preview & Strategy guide goes over the basics of NHL DFS and what I look for when researching players.
If you remember Tuesday's newsletter, I talked about throwing half a dozen entries into Draftkings's $100K Sticks contest. I'm going to show you how I did, what lineups I ran, and what I learned.
But first, let's dive into tonight's slate.
Tonight's Slate
Here's numbers on the teams from their past 10 games. Generally, I start my research by looking for teams in good spots. For example, teams that score goals (GF60) that are facing teams that give up goals (GA60). I also look at teams that shoot a lot (CF60) that are facing teams that give up a lot of shots (CA60).

Legend: CF% = Corsi For Percentage, CF60 = Corsi For Per60 min, CA = Corsi Allowed Per 60 Min, HDCF60 = High Danger Corsi For Per 60 Min, HDCA60 = High Danger Corsi Allowed Per 60 Min, SF60 = Shots on Goal For Per 60 Min, SA60 = Shots on Goal Allowed Per 60 Min, SOT = % of Shot Attempts On Goal, Sh% = % of Shots on Goal That Are Goals, SCF60 = Scoring Chances For Per 60 Min, SCA60 = Scoring Chances Allowed Per 60 Min, GF60 = Goals For Per 60 Min, GA60 = Goals Allowed Per 60.
Goaltender Rankings
How to Interpret This: I've added LineStar Projected Ownership, LineStar Projected Fantasy Points, and Goalie GAA (Goals Saved Above Average), and Saves/60, along with my projected upside for each goalie. Generally, I'm looking for goalies that I think will get a win with a positive (green) GSAA and a high saves number.

As always - double-check that your goalie is starting before the game starts.
My Favorite:
Semyon Varlamov - NYI (DK: $7800, FD: $8000) *EXPECTED STARTER*
I always prefer to correlate goalie with one of my stacks, but as a one-off, I prefer Varlamov tonight. The Penguins are a dangerous team to target, but their goaltending is not great, so I expect the Isles to win this one.
Forwards and Defensemen Rankings
How to Interpret C/D/W charts: In NHL DFS, I think it's most important to look at peripheral stats instead of goals which is why I put so much emphasis on shots. This includes shot attempts, high danger shot attempts (those shot attempts closest to the net with the highest probability of going into the net), and shots on goal. I've included projections and average fantasy points to see how each compares so you can more easily find value.

My Favorite
Elias Pettersson - VAN (DK: $5800, FD: $6700)
Late night hammers saved me on Tuesday and I'm going to target players in the west-coast games again tonight. For me, it starts with Elias Pettersson, who is starting to pick it up and has a good matchup against a Calgary team that is giving up 2.9 goals a game.
Wing

My Favorite:
Jordan Eberle - NYI (DK: $5100, FD: $5800)
NYI PP1 is not very expensive, and I like them as a stack tonight. Eberle comes in at a great price, has been shooting the puck, and gets a great matchup tonight.
Defensemen

My Favorite
Brent Burns - SJS (DK: $6500, FD: $6400)
I prefer the model of playing a top-tier D in my lineups, and for tonight, I'm leaning on Brent Burns for the late night hammer.
Bottom of the Barrel
Here are my cheap calls for a skater to pick up a goal or assist.
Yanni Gourde: TBL - C (DK: $3.3K, FD: $4.4K)
Tanner Pearson: ANH - W (DK: $3.9K, FD: $4.7K)
Kevin Shattenkirk: ANH - D (DK: $3.9K, FD: $3.8K)
Line Stacks
Here are my ranked stacks for tonight:

DFS Strategy - What have I learned?
I had 6 entries in the $11 GPP on DraftKings on Tuesday, and I'm pretty happy with how I landed. Here are my results and my lineups.

Now my biggest regret is I didn't roll with one of my ideas (TBL1 with LAK1). When it came down to it, I didn't expect much out of LAK and thought they'd be over-owned. Maybe I could have scored higher, but we're just hindsighting at this point.
If you look at my lineups, my best lineup was a 3-3 stack with a CWD lineup stack. That allowed me to fit a DeBrincat and Dustin Brown one-off. That got me thinking that (and I'm sure I've said this before) I'm spending too much effort forcing 3-3 full forward stacks. I think full forward stack goals are rare and I have a better chance picking up fantasy points by including defensemen in my stacks that will see time with most of the forward lines.
We'll try this strategy a little more aggressively tonight
