LineStar® Hat Trick 12/11 | Alexa, who is the top stack tonight?

Welcome back to the NHL Hat Trick.

There's a huge 10-game slate tonight, and for those of you who prefer smaller slates, there's a 5 game "late" slate on DraftKings and two smaller 5-game slates on FanDuel tonight. Like I always say, play what you feel more comfortable with. There's no shame in skipping the main slate and focusing on the smaller turbo/express/late slates if you like.

That said, here's how all games look tonight from a high level.

Heads up - at the time of this writing, most goalies have NOT been confirmed. Keep an eye on chat for updates throughout the day.

✅ Jacob Markstrom vs 🅿️ Joonas Korpisalo

🅿️ Frederik Andersen vs 🅿️ Petr Mrazek

✅ Darcy Kuemper vs ✅ Tuukka Rask

🅿️ Jonathan Quick vs ✅ Linus Ullmark

🅿️ Jimmy Howard vs ✅ Braden Holtby

🅿️ Cam Ward vs ✅ Laurent Brossoit

🅿️ Roberto Luongo vs ✅ Jake Allen

✅ Antti Nuemi vs ✅ Devan Dubnyk

🅿️ Craig Anderson vs 🅿️ Pekka Rinne

✅ Mikko Koskinen vs 🅿️ Semyon Varlamov

In other news, it looks like TJ Oshie is back for Washington tonight and is skating on the top line with Ovechkin and Backstrom. Keep in mind, he's still officially GTD, so keep an eye on Twitter or chat close to lock.

Michael Ferland is also expected to return to the Carolina lineup tonight.

Jaden Schwartz has been upgraded to probable and is expected to play tonight for St Louis.

Alex Galchenyuk is GTD tonight.

Now, lets look at my favorites on the slate:

Goaltending

So as most of you know, I'm a heavy GPP player. So I'm approaching goalie selection purely looking at upside for tonight. I'll be leaning heavy on goaltenders that will be facing a high volume of shots tonight, as they'll have some of the biggest upside if they can limit goals and pick up a win.

Here are my three favorite goaltenders on the night:

Frederik Andersen, TOR (@ CAR) (DK: $8K, FD: $9.2K)

Hopefully you played Howard last night off my advice. In the same way, I'm going back on Andersen tonight. Again, he had a rough outing last time around against Boston. I'm hoping that scares people off of him for tonight, as I like his matchup against a Carolina team that is putting 33 shots on net a game but only scoring 2.1 goals a game over their last 10 games.

Laurent Brossoit, WPG (vs CHI) (DK: $8.3K, FD: $7.7K)

He's a better value on FanDuel tonight, but will have him on both sites. Chicago has really been struggling, having only won 1 game out of their last 10. Also, Cam Ward is starting for Chicago, which should increase Brossoit's win equity tonight.

Craig Anderson, OTT (@ NSH) (DK: $7K, FD: $7.9K)

I've mentioned this before, I like Anderson because he sees a lot of shots most night. The downside is he's been allowing a little over 3 goals a game. Still, on a huge slate, I'll have decent exposure to him since he definitely has upside if he can limit goals and pull out a win.

#BiscuitInTheBasketWatchList 🚨

For those of you who aren’t familiar with hockey, “biscuit in the basket” is a term for scoring a goal. Here I’m going to give a center, wing, and defensemen for the top and value pricing tiers that I think has a good chance to score a goal. Remember - I gave some tips last week on numbers that I look for, and these players check most (if not all my boxes):

Jack Eichel: BUF - C (DK: $7.5K, FD: $7.7K)

Famous last words, but Eichel is my favorite skater on the slate tonight. Over his last 5 games, he's averaging 6.8 shot attempts (1.8 high danger) and 5 shots on net.

Jonathan Huberdeau: FLA - W (DK: $7K, FD: $7K)

Jake Allen is starting for St Louis, and although he's been good recently, he's been known to be really bad, which is why I have a lot of interest in Florida tonight, specifically Huberdeau. Huberdeau has a 67 CF% with 6 shot attempts (1.6 high danger) and 3.4 shots on net a game over his last 5 games.

Shea Weber: MON - D (DK: $5.7K, FD: $5.7K)

I really want to like Dubnyk tonight, but he hasn't played well enough lately for me to justify putting him in many of my lineups. On the other hand, Weber is my highest-rated defenseman tonight. In his last 5 games, he's seeing over 25 minutes and taking 6.8 shot attempts with 3.6 shots on net.

Value Twigs 💲

Similar to the biscuit-in-the-basket watch list, in this section I’ll provide a center, wing, and defensemen who are priced in the value tier. If I can find someone under priced on both sites, I’ll highlight them. But in some cases, it could be site specific.

Carl Soderberg: COL C (DK: $4.8K, FD: $4.4K)

Believe it or not, Soderberg has 10 goals so far this season (he had 16 total last season). That's more than Jack Eichel. Soderberg sees 2.8 scoring chances a game and is averaging 4.8 shot attempts (1.8 high danger) with 2.6 shots on net a game over his last 5.

Kyle Connor: WPG - W (DK: $5.3K, FD: $5.2K)

Winnipeg is going to be popular tonight with Cam Ward in net for Chicago, and Connor is a great value play. He's seeing 4 scoring chances a game and averaging 5 shot attempts (1.4 high danger) with 3.2 shots on net over his last 5.

Jared Spurgeon: MIN - D (DK: $4.8K, FD: $4.6K)

Spurgeon has been playing well. In just over 23 minutes of ice time, he's averaging 5.2 shot attempts, 3.2 shots on net, and 1.8 blocks a game over his last 5 games.

Bottom of the Barrel

I did this last season, and I’ll do it again this season. These are the players in the bottom of the salary barrel but are in a good spot tonight.

Colton Sissons: NSH - C (DK: $3.6K, FD: $3.6K)

Ryan Donato: BOS - LW (DK: $3K, FD: $3.1K)

Brett Pesce: CAR - D (DK: $3.7K, FD: $3.9K)

Line Stacks

Line stacking is a common strategy in GPP. You’ll see a lot of winning lineups where players are stacked from the same forward lines or power play lines.

Since it's a small slate, I'm going to do things a little different. I'm going to list two of the the highest-owned stacks, two of my favorite stacks, and two "biscuit" (high risk, high reward) stacks:

High-Ownership (Base on LineStar Ownership Projections):

WPG: Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler (DK: $21.2K, FD: $21.6K)

COL: Landeskog-Mackinnon-Rantanen (DK: $22.1K, FD: $24.1K)

Favorite stacks:

VAN: Leivo-Pettersson-Boeser (DK: $16K FD: $15.9K)

CLS: Panarin-Dubois-Atkinson (DK: $18.7K FD: $20.2K)

Biscuit stacks (high risk, high upside):

MON: Tatar-Danault-Gallagher (DK: $14.8K FD: $17.2K)

MIN: Zucker-Staal-Granlund (DK: $17.6K FD: $19.4K)
