LineStar® Hat Trick 11-13 | Taco Tuesday

Written by LineStar Fantasy Life Coach @ZeroInDenver

Welcome back to the NHL Hat Trick.

Here's how today's slate looks from a high-level, looking at numbers for each time over the past 10 games:

A few thoughts on the slate overall:

Florida has turned it around and I'm going to continue riding them while they're hot. I'm also going to keep playing the hot hands of Tampa and Minnesota.

Another team playing well is Nashville. Filip Forsberg hasn't scored a goal since his hat trick on October 27. I think that ends tonight.

With all that said, let’s dive into the slate:

Goaltending

Playing cash games? Fill in your goalie spot first. Playing tournaments? Fill your skater positions and pick the goaltender with the biggest upside for the least amount of salary. Here are my three favorite goaltenders on the night:

Frederik Andersen, TOR (@LAK) (DK: $8.2K, FD: $8.7K)

Andersen has been outstanding over the past month, with a 1.56 goals against average and a .951 save percentage. He's got a solid floor with some GPP upside.

Jimmy Howard, DET (vs ARI) (DK: $7.2K, FD: $8.2K)

Howard is too expensive on FanDuel, but I like his price on DraftKings. He's been very consistent in fantasy terms over the past month, and I don't love his matchup but will roll with him where I need to spend down at G.

Casey DeSmith, PIT (@ NJ) (DK: $7.5K, FD: $8.1K)

New Jersey has been awful lately, with only two wins in their last ten games, so I'll admit that I'm chasing the win bonus with this one.

#BiscuitInTheBasketWatchList 🚨

For those of you who aren’t familiar with hockey, “biscuit in the basket” is a term for scoring a goal. Here I’m going to give a center, wing, and defensemen for the top and value pricing tiers that I think has a good chance to score a goal. Remember - I gave some tips last week on numbers that I look for, and these players check most (if not all my boxes):

Steven Stamkos: TB - C (DK: $7K, FD: $8K)

I'll admit to waffling a bit on top-tier centers tonight, but landed on Stamkos. He had a dud his last time out and I hope that keeps interest off him tonight. He's still averaging 4 shots on net a game.

Jeff Skinner: BUF - LW (DK: $6.8K, FD: $6.6K)

Skinner has been playing well lately and averaging 1.2 goals a game with 4.6 shots on goal over the past 5 games.

Mikael Granlund: MIN - RW (DK: $5.7K, FD: $6.7K)

Minnesota is playing well and I really like Granlund tonight for the Wild. He's such a better player at home and I think he's a little underpriced on both sites.

Roman Josi: NSH - D (DK: $6.5K, FD: $6.3K)

If I'm going to spend up at D, I want someone who's going to get a ton of minutes and take a bunch of shots and Josi checks those boxes tonight with 4.8 shots and over 25 minutes over the past 5 games.

Value Sticks 💲

Similar to the biscuit-in-the-basket watch list, in this section I’ll provide a center, wing, and defensemen who are priced in the value tier. If I can find someone under priced on both sites, I’ll highlight them. But in some cases, it could be site specific.

Leon Draisaitl: EDM - C (DK: $5.4K, FD: $6.4K)

A bit tougher to stack since he's still listed as a C, but I mentioned before that I like stacking against Montreal these days. Now that he's on the top line and top powerplay unit with McDavid, I like him even more.

JT Miller: TB - LW (DK: $5.4K, FD: $4.9K)

Tough to fit Stamkos (who I mentioned earlier) with Kucherov. Instead, I think Miller is a good play if you're trying to pair up. He's better priced on FanDuel, however.

Travis Konecny: PHI - RW (DK: $5K, FD: $4.8K)

Luongo has been good lately, but my model keeps pulling me back to Philly. Konecny is on the top line and averaging 3.2 shots on net over the past 5. Could be a bit of a mid-priced sleeper tonight.

Matt Dumba: MIN - D (DK: $4.8K, FD: $4.8K)

I still love Dumba. He's averaging 3.2 shots and 1.8 blocks a game. Solid floor with upside.

Bottom of the Barrel

I did this last season, and I’ll do it again this season. These are the players in the bottom of the salary barrel but are in a good spot tonight.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: MON - C (DK: $3.8K, FD: $3.7K)

Colton Sissons: NSH- LW (DK: $3.4K, FD: $3.3K)

Oskar Lindblom: PHI - LW (DK: $3.9K, FD: $3,7K)

Nick Leddy: NYI - D (DK: $3.5K, FD: $4K)

Line Stacks

Line stacking is a common strategy in GPP. You’ll see a lot of winning lineups where players are stacked from the same forward lines or power play lines.

I’m going to try something a little bit different with stacks. I’m going to present my personal favorite, as well as a value stack, and one with the best matchup. Here they are for tonight:

MIN: Jason Zucker-Eric Staal-Mikael Granlund (DK: $16.9K, FD: $18.6K)

Value stack. In a little over 65 minutes of 5v5 together, they have a respectable 56 CF% with 41 shots and 5 goals.

FLA: Dadonov-Barkov-Hoffman: (DK: $20K, FD: $19.5K)

Favorite stack tonight. Dadonov and Hoffman both have double-digit point streaks and get a pretty decent matchup tonight against Philly.

EDM: Caggiula-McDavid-Draisaitl: (DK: $17.6K, FD: $19.8K)

Second-best matchup on the slate in terms of FFPG to line by skaters vs. the opposing team. In 11 minutes of 5v5 this season, they have a 67 CF% with 10 shots and 1 goal.

Risk-It-For-The-Biscuit Stack 🍪

MON: Drouin-Domi-Shaw (DK: $15.7K, FD: $15.9K)

Montreal looks terrible on paper but has been playing well. In 23 minutes of 5v5, this line has 18 shots and 4 goals.
