Welcome to the NHL Hat Trick.

ICYMI - The NHL Season Preview & Strategy guide goes over the basics of NHL DFS and what I look for when researching players.

This is the last Friday newsletter of the 2021 season. The 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs were scheduled to start on May 11, but the start date has been pushed back. So we get two more slates (4 games or greater) next week for newsletters, and then that's it until the NHL 2021-2022 season starts.

I hope my newsletters have been helpful and want to thank all who took the time to give it a read.

Tonight's Slate

Here's numbers on the teams from their past 10 games. Generally, I start my research by looking for teams in good spots. For example, teams that score goals (GF60) that are facing teams that give up goals (GA60). I also look at teams that shoot a lot (CF60) that are facing teams that give up a lot of shots (CA60).

Line Stacks

Let's get weird.

Colorado and Vegas are the top stacks tonight. You don't need me to point them out, but here are some other stacks that ranked high for me to consider:

I kind of like the top line for Philly tonight. Washington has been allowing 3 goals a game over their last ten games, and for the price, I think people will look elsewhere, but I like this stack, and its a full correlation.

If you're looking to game-stack, the Philly-Washington matchup is my favorite and I like the second line from Washington if you're looking to pair something with PHI1.

The final favorite line on the night is MIN2. Minnesota has been playing well and Anaheim has been allowing 3.3 goals a game over their last 10 so I think you'll definitely want some Wild in your lineups.

Biscuit Stack

As much as I like to pick on Detroit, they've been allowing only 2.2 goals a night over their last 10 and Columbus is only scoring 1.8 goals a game over that span. Still, I like the top line for Columbus as they're decently priced and see almost 20 minutes of ice time.

Goaltender Rankings

How to Read This: 

I'm giving you a comparison of LineStar projections vs the average fantasy points scored over their last 10 games. I've also given you their save percentage (over 0.910 is ideal), goals allowed (lower is better), saves per game (more is better), GAA (Goals Saved Above Average), and my projected upside for each goalie.

Generally, if I'm stacking a team, I'll correlate a goalie if I can. In GPPs, I may not have the salary to make this work. In this case, I usually spend down on someone that I expect will take a lot of shots and could pick up the W.

As always - double-check that your goalie is starting before the game starts.

CASH: Philipp Grubauer - COL (DK: $8500, FD: $8400)

GPP: Jonathan Bernier - DET (DK: $7400, FD: $6600)

Forwards and Defensemen Rankings

Here are my overall rankings on the top 15 skaters on the main slate. These are players that I would look to insert into my lineups as one-offs or lineup fillers if I'm stacking or double-stacking lines.

My Favorites

Again, single-entry lineup tonight. Here are the players I'm trying to squeeze in:

Joel Eriksson Ek - MIN - DK: $4600 | FD: $4500

If you're spending up for MacKinnon, you're going to need a reasonably-priced center to pair with him which is where JEE comes in. I mentioned my interest in Minnesota earlier and while I prefer the second line, that wouldn't exclude me from looking at the other lines as well.

T.J. Oshie - WAS - DK: $6100 | FD: $6800

Philly has allowed a slate-worst 4 goals a game over their last 10 games so I think you definitely want some Washington in your lineups, and Oshie is my favorite one-off.

Evander Kane - SJS - DK: $6800 | FD: $7500

I always like to emphasize shot volume when picking players for a lineup and you get great shot volume out of Kane plus that late night hammer.

Travis Konecny - PHI - DK: $4900 | FD: $5500

Bottom of the Barrel

Here are my cheap calls for a skater to pick up a goal or assist.

Trevor Zegras: ANH - C - DK: $3900 | FD: $3600

Emil Bemstrom: CLS - W - DK: $2800 | FD: $3500

Sean Walker: LAK - D - DK: $3600 | FD: $4000
