Welcome to the NHL Hat Trick.

ICYMI - The NHL Season Preview & Strategy guide goes over the basics of NHL DFS and what I look for when researching players.

We're winding down into the final weeks of the regular season, but we have a solid 8 games on tonight's slate. Again, I think your lineups should be a good mix of what we know are good teams/good stacks, as well as players from teams that won't make the playoffs. Lots to look at so let's dive in.

Tonight's Slate

Here's numbers on the teams from their past 10 games. Generally, I start my research by looking for teams in good spots. For example, teams that score goals (GF60) that are facing teams that give up goals (GA60). I also look at teams that shoot a lot (CF60) that are facing teams that give up a lot of shots (CA60).

Line Stacks

Favorite overall stack tonight: Edmonton 1. Expensive, but they have good history against Montreal. Also, Montreal is allowing 3.2 goals a game over their last 10.

Favorite team to target tonight: Carolina. Tampa hasn't been playing great hockey over their last 10 games and is allowing 3.3 goals a game. CAR1 is my favorite, but wouldn't fault you for dipping to CAR2 or even CAR3.

Dallas is another team that has my interest tonight. DAL1 ranks high, but DAL2 is in play for me as well tonight.

Biscuit Stack

One team that may go overlooked today is Florida. I really like FLA1 tonight. I think the Nikita Gusev pickup for the Panthers was a great move and he's not far from min-priced.

Goaltender Rankings

How to Read This: 

I'm giving you a comparison of LineStar projections vs the average fantasy points scored over their last 10 games. I've also given you their save percentage (over 0.910 is ideal), goals allowed (lower is better), saves per game (more is better), GAA (Goals Saved Above Average), and my projected upside for each goalie.

Generally, if I'm stacking a team, I'll correlate a goalie if I can. In GPPs, I may not have the salary to make this work. In this case, I usually spend down on someone that I expect will take a lot of shots and could pick up the W.

As always - double-check that your goalie is starting before the game starts.

CASH: Robin Lehner - VGK (DK: $8500, FD: $8500)

GPP: Mike Smith - EDM (DK: $7800, FD: $7300)

Forwards and Defensemen Rankings

How to Interpret C/D/W charts: In NHL DFS, I think it's most important to look at peripheral stats instead of goals which is why I put so much emphasis on shots. This includes shot attempts, high danger shot attempts (those shot attempts closest to the net with the highest probability of going into the net), shots on goal, and scoring chances. I've included projections and average fantasy points to see how each compares so you can more easily find value.

Center

My Favorite

Sebastian Aho - CAR - DK: $6600 | FD: $7700

Carolina is my favorite team to target tonight - that said, Aho is my favorite from the Hurricanes tonight.

Wing

My Favorite:

Jason Robertson - DAL - DK: $6400 | FD: $4900

I've got some interest in Dallas tonight, and Robertson is my favorite one-off from that top line.

Defensemen

My Favorite

Shea Theodore - VGK - DK: $5800 | FD: $6400

I haven't really mentioned the Golden Knights tonight, but they're a good team and are always in play. I love Theodore's price tonight and I think that's a good way to get exposure to Vegas tonight.

Bottom of the Barrel

Here are my cheap calls for a skater to pick up a goal or assist.

Kirby Dach: CHI - C - DK: $3600 | FD: $3600

Adam Erne: DET - W - DK: $3400 | FD: $3700

Jaccob Slavin: CAR - D - DK: $3400 | FD: $3900
