Welcome to the NHL Hat Trick.

ICYMI - The NHL Season Preview & Strategy guide goes over the basics of NHL DFS and what I look for when researching players.

If you're like me, you're playing NHL AND MLB tonight. The good news is that there's only one game at lock for each sport, so I don't expect a scramble before lock with player news.

6-games on tap so let's dive in.

LETSSSSSSSSSSGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight's Slate

Here's numbers on the teams from their past 10 games. Generally, I start my research by looking for teams in good spots. For example, teams that score goals (GF60) that are facing teams that give up goals (GA60). I also look at teams that shoot a lot (CF60) that are facing teams that give up a lot of shots (CA60).

Based on this, my favorite teams to target on this slate are Colorado, Edmonton, Toronto, Arizona, and Washington.

Line Stacks

Colorado is an obvious stack for tonight. My favorite is the top line, but they're extra expensive. As a pivot, you could go to COL2. I think COL3 is another option, but Donskoi had a ceiling game last time out and I don't feel like chasing that tonight.

Another Battle of the 'Bert with Edmonton hosting Calgary. What can I say about Edmonton? I think McDavid and Draisaitl are always in play. Tonight I prefer EDM1 or an EDM PP1 stack

Toronto is always in play for me, even after being a relative dud the other night. Again, my preference is the top line for Toronto, but I think TOR2 is a good pivot.

New Jersey is only allowing 2.5 goals over their last 10, but I think Washington deserves a look today. New Jersey has given up the most fantasy points to an opposing line on the slate and they're giving up the most points to the opposing top line. WAS1 or WAS PP1 is my preference.

Risk It For The Biscuit

Anaheim is giving up 3.7 goals a game, so I think an Arizona stack is in play for tonight. My preference is the top line for Arizona, but I think ARI2 is viable as well.

Goaltender Rankings

How to Read This:

I'm giving you a comparison of LineStar projections vs the average fantasy points scored over their last 10 games. I've also given you their save percentage (over 0.910 is ideal), goals allowed (lower is better), saves per game (more is better), GAA (Goals Saved Above Average), and my projected upside for each goalie.

Generally, if I'm stacking a team, I'll correlate a goalie if I can. In GPPs, I may not have the salary to make this work. In this case, I usually spend down on someone that I expect will take a lot of shots and could pick up the W.

As always - double-check that your goalie is starting before the game starts.

My Favorites:

CASH: Mike Smith - EDM (DK: $7900, FD: $7500)

GPP: MacKenzie Blackwood - NJD (DK: $7200, FD: $6800)

Forwards and Defensemen Rankings

How to Interpret C/D/W charts: In NHL DFS, I think it's most important to look at peripheral stats instead of goals which is why I put so much emphasis on shots. This includes shot attempts, high danger shot attempts (those shot attempts closest to the net with the highest probability of going into the net), shots on goal, and scoring chances. I've included projections and average fantasy points to see how each compares so you can more easily find value.

Center

My Favorite

Mark Scheifele - WPG (DK: $6400, FD: $7100)

I didn't have a lot of love for Winnipeg stacks tonight, but I like Scheifele as a one-off today. He doesn't take a ton of shots, but he takes quality shots in that most of them hitting the net.

Wing

My Favorite:

Evander Kane - SJS (DK: $7200, FD: $7600)

Sharks also missed the cut for a recommended stack tonight, but I still love Evander Kane as a one-off tonight. He has great shot volume and should see plenty of scoring chances against the Kings.

Defensemen

My Favorite

Jakob Chychrun - ARI (DK: $6100, FD: $4500)

Don't look surprised. Plus he's extra cheap on FanDuel tonight.

Bottom of the Barrel

Here are my cheap calls for a skater to pick up a goal or assist.

Derick Brassard: AR - C (DK: $ 3100, FD: $ 4100)

Joonas Donskoi: COL - W (DK: $4200, FD: $300)

Ryan Graves: COL (DK: $3600, FD: $3500)
