Welcome to the NHL Hat Trick.

ICYMI - The NHL Season Preview & Strategy guide goes over the basics of NHL DFS and what I look for when researching players.

The MLB season kicked off today, but we still have the NHL regular season for another month. So if you're looking for something to do tonight, we have a solid 9-game slate on tap.

LETSSSSSSSSSSGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight's Slate

Here's numbers on the teams from their past 10 games. Generally, I start my research by looking for teams in good spots. For example, teams that score goals (GF60) that are facing teams that give up goals (GA60). I also look at teams that shoot a lot (CF60) that are facing teams that give up a lot of shots (CA60).

Based on this, my favorite teams to target on this slate are Rangers, Canadians, Hurricanes, Penguins, and Islanders

Line Stacks

Philly flopped the other night, but I'm still going to target Buffalo every night. Favorite is NYR1 tonight.

Ottawa is allowing 3.2 goals a night and I think Montreal is a solid option that's not too expensive. My preference is MON1 tonight, but all lines are in play for me.

Carolina is almost automatic for me most nights. Tonight they face a Chicago team that is allowing 2.9 goals over their last 10. My favorite of the two lines is CAR2, but both are viable.

Pittsburgh has been playing well, but have a tougher matchup tonight. PIT1 is a stack I'm targetting tonight because they're one of the more expensive stacks and I think they'll go underowned tonight.

Risk It For The Biscuit

Pure gut call tonight. My preference would be a NYI1 or PP1 stack.

Goaltender Rankings

How to Read This:

I'm giving you a comparison of LineStar projections vs the average fantasy points scored over their last 10 games. I've also given you their save percentage (over 0.910 is ideal), goals allowed (lower is better), saves per game (more is better), GAA (Goals Saved Above Average), and my projected upside for each goalie.

Generally, if I'm stacking a team, I'll correlate a goalie if I can. In GPPs, I may not have the salary to make this work. In this case, I usually spend down on someone that I expect will take a lot of shots and could pick up the W.

As always - double-check that your goalie is starting before the game starts.

My Favorites:

CASH: Igor Shesterkin - NYR (DK: $8000, FD: $7500)

GPP: Filip Gustavsson - OTT (DK: $7200, FD: $6700)

Forwards and Defensemen Rankings

How to Interpret C/D/W charts: In NHL DFS, I think it's most important to look at peripheral stats instead of goals which is why I put so much emphasis on shots. This includes shot attempts, high danger shot attempts (those shot attempts closest to the net with the highest probability of going into the net), shots on goal, and scoring chances. I've included projections and average fantasy points to see how each compares so you can more easily find value.

Center

My Favorite

Roope Hintz - DAL (DK: $5700, FD: $5700)

I liked him two nights ago and he scored, and I don't think his price moved much. Going back to the well tonight.

Wing

My Favorite:

David Pastrnak - BOS (DK: $9100, FD: $8200)

I don't like Boston much, but my model does. However, Pittsburgh's goaltended is sus at times and I'm going to spend up on Pastrnak tonight.

Defensemen

My Favorite

Matt Grzelcyk - BOS (DK: $5200, FD: $4300)

If I sold you on Pastrnak, I'd like to suggest pairing him with Grzelcyk tonight. I've mentioned this before, but I love PP1 defenseman that are sub-$6000 and he comes in well under that tonight.

Bottom of the Barrel

Here are my cheap calls for a skater to pick up a goal or assist.

Jared McCann: PIT - C (DK: $ 4200, FD: $ 4200)

Craig Smith: BOS - W (DK: $3200, FD: $3800)

David Savard: CLS (DK: $3300, FD: $3500)
