ICYMI - The NHL Season Preview & Strategy guide goes over the basics of NHL DFS and what I look for when researching players.

Tonight's Slate

Here's numbers on the teams from their past 10 games. Generally, I start my research by looking for teams in good spots. For example, teams that score goals (GF60) that are facing teams that give up goals (GA60). I also look at teams that shoot a lot (CF60) that are facing teams that give up a lot of shots (CA60).

Based on this, my favorite teams to target on this slate are Colorado, Vegas, Philly, Edmonton, and Pittsburgh

Line Stacks

7-game slates are a good night for homer stacks and I'm putting COL at the top of my list. COL1 is my favorite, but all 3 lines are viable tonight.

Vegas is still best in the west, and I like both top lines for Vegas tonight. VGK2 will probably be my preference due to price and I'll try to sneak in an underpriced Mark Stone with that line stack.

Philly disappoints so much. I think they often pick up an early goal or two and then do nothing the rest of the game. At least it feels that way. Anyway, all three lines are viable for me, but my preference is PHI2.

Edmonton has Draisaitl and McDavid together again, so I love the top line for Edmonton tonight. Still, I wouldn't rule out a wild EDM2 stack if you're trying to squeeze exposure to Edmonton with a high-salary stack.

Risk It For The Biscuit

I don't love the matchup, but I love how this line has been clicking lately, and they face an Islanders team that is still without Anders Lee.

Goaltender Rankings

How to Read This: 

I'm giving you a comparison of LineStar projections vs the average fantasy points scored over their last 10 games. I've also given you their save percentage (over 0.910 is ideal), goals allowed (lower is better), saves per game (more is better), GAA (Goals Saved Above Average), and my projected upside for each goalie.

Generally, if I'm stacking a team, I'll correlate a goalie if I can. In GPPs, I may not have the salary to make this work. In this case, I usually spend down on someone that I expect will take a lot of shots and could pick up the W.

As always - double-check that your goalie is starting before the game starts.

CASH: Kaapo Kahkonen - MIN (DK: $7900, FD: $8300)

GPP: Martin Jones - SJS (DK: $7400, FD: $7600)

Forwards and Defensemen Rankings

How to Interpret C/D/W charts: In NHL DFS, I think it's most important to look at peripheral stats instead of goals which is why I put so much emphasis on shots. This includes shot attempts, high danger shot attempts (those shot attempts closest to the net with the highest probability of going into the net), shots on goal, and scoring chances. I've included projections and average fantasy points to see how each compares so you can more easily find value.

Center

My Favorite

John Tavares - TOR (DK: $6200, FD: $6900)

It's a night of top-tier centers, but I also think a good opportunity to pivot to a solid center with good peripherals in Tavares.

Wing

My Favorite:

Mikko Rantanen - COL (DK: $7500, FD: $8500)

My model really likes Colorado tonight. If you're going to one-off one of the three-headed monster that's COL1, my pick is Rantanen.

Defensemen

My Favorite

Ivan Provorov - PHI (DK: $5200, FD: $5200)

Great matchup against a terrible Buffalo team.

Bottom of the Barrel

Here are my cheap calls for a skater to pick up a goal or assist.

Jared McCann: PIT - C (DK: $ 3900, FD: $ 3700)

Joonas Donskoi: COL - W (DK: $3800, FD: $3500)

Philippe Myers: PHI (DK: $3100, FD: $3500)
